Disneyland/California Adventure

Isaac getting soaked at California Adventure (with cousin Nicholas (grey shirt)).

Lucy's favorite was the Carosel (we went on that one twice).

The Squirt Park, where Isaac got soaked with cousin Nora (purple shirt).

Isaac loved riding the Carosel too. Especially the horses with the red saddles (red is his favorite color).

Before starting our day we ate our sandwiches and snacks in the shade.

The kids and I went to California Adventure this week with my sisters-in-law Denise and Darla and their kids. We had so much fun. The kids found this area in California Adventure where water squirts out of the ground (which has the effect of jumping from one spot to another). The kids thought it was great! Of course they got soaked in the process. Fortunately for Isaac I had brought his swim trunks in such an event. Unfortunately we didn't get them on till after he was soaked. So Isaac spent the rest of the day in his swim trunks. Lucy, after getting squirted in the face with the water avoided getting more wet, so she only had to change her shirt.

After California Adventure we went to Disneyland where the kids rode the Buzz Lightyear ride and shot all of the targets with their laser guns. As we left that ride we (or I should say the kids) discovered that Disneyland had strategically placed a gift shop just after the exit of the ride. This is where I became a "sucker-mom" and purchased 2 light-up, beeping Buzz guns for my kids. Oh well, they had a lot of fun with them for the rest of the day. We had a great day and all of the kids were so well behaved (I might even venture to do that again).

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Well after a few days of heat well over 100 degrees, we got rain, snow and more rain! Can you believe it! I love stormy weather, but without a decent backyard for my kids to play in, rain makes our dirt filled backyard a muddy mess. Isaac is dying to go outside today, promising to stay away from the puddles. I almost believe he would do that, but Lucy would follow him outside and do just the opposite. We just don't have time to get dirty and get clean again before school. Besides, its laundry day, and we just don't have enough replacement clothes for one day. :)

White Doughnuts??

This morning on my way home from work I stopped at the grocery store to pick up some breakfast for the kids, so I wouldn't have to make anything when I got home. Isaac loves powdered doughnuts, so I picked up some of those among other things. When I got home I was setting everything out and talking with Duane about my shift, Lucy came in and started eating, so Duane went upstairs to get ready for his day. As he passed Isaac (who was still sleepy) they had this conversation.
Duane: Wake up Isaac.
Isaac: Morning Dad.
Duane: Morning Isaac, guess what?
Isaac: What?
Duane: Mommy's home and she brought some doughnuts for breakfast.
(Isaac closed his eyes for a few moments, still sleepy).
Isaac: (with his eyes still closed) ...white doughnuts??
Duane: Yeah.
(Isaac, very alert, jumped out of bed and ran downstairs for some breakfast).

Sacrament Meeting - Mother's Day

As my family sat "reverently" during the Sacrament portion of the meeting, Lucy anxiously asked for her ration of fruit snacks to get her through the meeting.

Jill: No, not till after the bread and water.
Lucy: want snacks!
Jill: Not yet, lets look at your book.
Lucy: want SNACK!
(Jill gets emergency pacifier from pocket).
Small boy sitting behind us: Mom, I want fruit snacks.
Mom sitting behind us: Not till after the bread and water.
Small boy: Mom, I want some fruit snacks, please.
Isaac turns around to the small boy behind us.
Isaac (in not so reverent voice): Not till after the bread and water!

Later....

Voice from behind us: uh-oh.

(Dad from behind us quickly carries small boy out of meeting with hand cupped under small boy's chin).

Another small boy: What happened?

Mom: He is sick.

Boy (in not so quiet voice): Oh, did he puke??

Through the giggles, I turn and tell the mother, Happy Mothers Day.

Happy Mothers Day to all mothers!

... especially the mothers of the small, sometimes-not-so-reverent, "puking", children.

"Texas-Cabs"

Yesterday, Isaac and I were driving to the store and we passed a taxi cab. Isaac asked what kind of car it was. So I explained how taxis work. He said "oh, okay", still sounding a bit confused. I told him that we don't see many taxis here in California. And then the light went on. He said, "Oh, yeah! We don't have Texas cabs in California!".
